PS2 Claw Programming

The CLAW™ does not require any software to be installed on your computer. It is ready to use as soon as it is connected. The CLAW™s two memory banks are factory programmed with a default set of keys that you can assign to any command within your favourite game.

Alternatively, The CLAW™ can be programmed to your games default keystrokes.

Programming the Claw

The CLAW™ can be programmed with any keyboard key you choose. You can even program each button on the CLAW™ with up to five keystrokes to perform fast multiple keystroke actions. Be careful not to select keystroke combinations that may produce undesirable results (e.g. Ctrl, Alt Del)!

Programming Single Keystrokes

At first, programming the CLAW™ is best performed in Notepad, MS Word, or any text editor, so that you can see the results of the programming. As you become more accustomed to programming The CLAW™, it will be possible to program the CLAW™ "on the fly" within the game.

  1. Move the left switch to PROGRAM. The CLAW™ will emit a continuous tone.
  2. Select and press a button on the CLAW™, The CLAW™ will now beep continuously.
  3. Select and press one key on the keyboard, The CLAW™ will now emit a continuous tone. This key has now been programmed to the button on the CLAW™ selected in step 2.
  4. Repeat steps 2 & 3 to program additional buttons, or move the left switch to PLAY to exit PROGRAM mode.

Remember

Continuous tone: Press the button on the Claw to be programmed
Beeping: Press the key on the keyboard that you want assigned to The CLAW™.

All the programmed buttons will be saved permanently in the Claw's on board memory. If you turn off the computer, or unplug the CLAW™, the programmed buttons will not be lost. The CLAW™ can be reprogrammed as many times as you like.

We also have a CLAW™ configuration sheet to help you remember your Claw’s action assignments. The CLAW™ Configuration Template can be filled out with your programmed key sets and their in game function.

Programming Multiple Keystrokes

  1. Move the left switch to PROGRAM. The CLAW™ will emit a continuous tone.
  2. Select and press a button on the CLAW™. The CLAW™ will now beep continuously.
  3. Select and press one key on the keyboard. The CLAW™ will now emit a continuous tone.
  4. Press the same button on The CLAW™ (as selected at 2).
  5. Select and press the next key on the keyboard to be programmed.
  6. Repeat steps 4 and 5 to program up to 5 keystrokes to a button on The CLAW™.
  7. Select the next CLAW™ button to program, or exit program mode by switching the CLAW™ to PLAY mode.

Note: If you press another button on the CLAW™ at step 4, you will begin programming the next button on the CLAW™.

If you make a mistake, simply reprogram the button!

Note: Do not switch the CLAW™ from Program Mode to Play Mode during steps 2 to 6. No damage will occur but programming results may become unpredictable. This can be resolved by simply reprogramming The CLAW™.

Programming the Modifier button

Programming the modifier function to one of the CLAW™ buttons will give you access to a maximum of 16 individual commands.
Before we explain how to enable the modifier functionality, lets explain how it works with an example:

Let's say you program a button on the CLAW™ with the keystrokes "a", "b" and "c". Lets call this button, Button #1. Pressing Button #1 will return the keystroke string "abc". This is the Claw's standard configuration.

If you now program a button on the CLAW™ to a Modifier Button (this will be explained below) you will notice that the keystrokes returned by Button #1 will be "bc". The "a" was skipped. Holding down the Modifier Button, then pressing Button #1 will send the keystroke "a".

So, when the modifier button is enabled, but not pressed, any button programmed with a keystroke string has the first keystroke in that string "jumped". It is this "jumped" keystroke that is sent by the CLAW™ when you hold down the Modifier Button and press another button.

Should you want each of the 8 buttons on the CLAW™ (the 9th is the modifier) to have two functions, you need to program each of the 8 buttons with at least 2 keystrokes.

The modifier button can be assigned to any one of the 9 CLAW™ buttons.

How to Program the Modifier Button

1 Move the left switch to PROGRAM. The CLAW™ will emit a continuous tone.
2 Select the button you wish to make the modifier. Press this button on the CLAW™. The CLAW™ will now beep continuously.
3 Press the right hand Shift key on the keyboard. The CLAW™ will now emit a continuous tone.
Note: You must use the right hand Shift key. The left one will simply program the Shift keystroke.
4 Exit program mode by switching the CLAW™ to PLAY mode.

Now that you have programmed a Modifier Button remember, the Modifier Button accesses the first keystroke of any multiple keystroke-programmed button.

Tips:
a) To delete Modifier functionality simply reprogram the button to any button except the RH Shift key.
b) The modifier key will "shift" all the CLAW™ buttons pressed after the modifier button is pushed and held down. If a button was pushed and held down prior to depressing the modifier button, it will not be affected. For example, this will allow you to remain crouched and still access modifier commands.
c) If there is only one keystroke recorded on a button, the same keystroke will be sent by the CLAW™ if you press the button with or without the modifier function.
